Delhi fans brave heat to watch IPL

New Delhi, April 6 (IANS) Cricket enthusiasts braved the sweltering heat to witness the Indian Premier League (IPL) match between Rajasthan Royals and the Delhi Daredevils here Saturday.

This is the first match the Ferozeshah Kotla is hosting in this season of the IPL. Delhi will be home to six IPL matches. Saturday’s match is one of the two day matches which start at 4 p.m. with the other one being the Daredevils vs Mumbai Indians match. The other four will be night matches starting at 8 p.m.

Initially the stadium wore a deserted look but as the game progressed it slowly filled up. Besides a few stands, especially the top ones in the east and west end, the stadium looked quite full.

“This is the first IPL match here this year, so I couldn’t miss it. It is quite hot but I will be sitting in the shade so I don’t mind,” Piyush Tanwar, an accountant, told IANS.

It was also a field day for touts selling hats and caps. Many fans came unprepared for the heat and quickly took the opportunity to find anything that would keep the heat and sunlight at bay.
