Allow Raja to depose before 2G JPC, Yashwant urges PM

New Delhi, April 1 (IANS) BJP leader Yashwant Sinha has urged Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to ensure former telecom minister A. Raja is allowed to depose before the joint parliamentary committee examining the 2G spectrum allocation, said BJP sources Monday.

Members of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) had earlier boycotted the JPC, demanding the prime minister and Finance Minister P.Chidamabaram be called to depose before it but later gave up their demand.

Earlier, Raja too had written to Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar and JPC chairman P.C. Chacko to allow him to depose before the parliamentary panel.

In his letter, Raja had said that Attorney General G.E. Vahanvati, in his deposition before the JPC, had levelled a false charge on him of changing a paragraph in a press note which altered the policy to allot the 2G spectrum.

Meanwhile, government sources said that the JPC has completed recording of evidence and is in the process of writing its report.
