40,000 people enter Australia dream job competition

Brisbane, April 12 (IANS) Tourism Australia’s ‘Best Jobs in the World’ competition has attracted interest from more than 330,000 people in 196 countries, with 40,000 entries to win one of the six dream jobs, media reported Friday.

The largest number of applications came from the US, followed by Britain, Italy, France, South Korea and Australia, according to the Australian Associated Press (AAP).

The six positions include New South Wales’ Chief Funster, South Australia’s Wildlife Caretaker, Queensland’s Park Ranger, Western Australia’s Taste Master, Northern Territory’s Outback Adventurer and Victoria’s Lifestyle Photographer, reported Xinhua.

Tourism Australia Managing Director Andrew McEvoy says the competition has caught the world’s attention.

“In a few months there’s going to be six very, very happy people getting a dream job offer and a life-changing opportunity to work and play in our great country,” he said in a statement.

Tourism Australia says the 25 best applications for each of the six jobs will be announced April 24.

A final shortlist of 18 candidates (three candidates for each job) will be flown to Australia for selection in June, with the six winners to be officially announced June 21.
