New Delhi (IANS) Delhi Police today tendered an “unconditional apology” to the Delhi High Court for defying its order on providing the names of the officials posted on the PCR vans in the areas during the Dec 16 gang-rape incident here.
The police apology came a day after it faced the high court’s wrath for not disclosing the names of the officials on Police Control Room (PCR) vans on patrolling duty and claiming that it cannot be blamed for any “consequential order”.
Filing fresh status report before the court, counsel appearing for Delhi Police tendered an “unconditional apology” and also submitted the names of officials deployed in the PCR vans during the incident.
A division bench of Chief Justice D. Murugesan and Justice V.K. Jain hearing the case asked the home ministry to increase the number of PCR vans in the city to ensure better safety to people.
The court also asked the central government to appraise it from time to time on the commission of inquiry set up by the government to deal with the related case.
The 23-year-old woman succumbed to the brutal Dec 16 gang-rape and torture in a moving bus in a Singapore hospital Dec 29, sparking a nation wide outrage.
