Srinagar: Separatist guerrillas shot dead a retired police officer while he coming out of a mosque here Friday, police said.

Militants shot at Abdul Hamid Bhat, a retired deputy superintendent of police in Mominabad (Tengpora) locality of Srinagar “when he was coming out of a mosque after offering Friday prayers”, a police officer said.

“He was shot at from a close range and he succumbed to injuries on the spot,” the officer added.

Police and paramilitary officers rushed to the spot after the incident.

No separatist group has owned responsibility for the murder.
