Haryana cuts over 3.56 power connections for non-payment of dues

Chandigarh: In a major drive, the Uttar Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam(UHBVN) has disconnected power supply to more than 3.56 lakh consumers for non-payment of dues and recovered Rs.151.94 crore from defaulters during 2011-12, an official said here on Tuesday.

“Power supply of 356,825 defaulters was disconnected temporarily or permanently,” a UHBVN spokesman said here.

The total outstanding dues was about Rs.207 crore, out of which Rs 151.94 crore was recovered, he said, adding that the recovery was made by launching a special recovery campaign.

The maximum disconnections were in Ambala and Panchkula districts (87,562) followed by Kurukshetra (65,582) and Yamuna Nagar (53,546).

In the year 2010-11, the Nigam had snapped electricity supply of 279,613 =non paying consumers and recovered Rs. 119 crore from them.
