Varun Gandhi files RTI on bank accounts abroad

New Delhi : BJP leader Varun Gandhi Friday demanded the government disclose the names of those with black money, and said he has filed an application under the Right to Information (RTI) Act for this purpose.

“Filed RTI application as promised. Trust it will lead to exposure of rich and powerful harbouring illegal funds abroad,” Varun Gandhi posted on microblogging site Twitter.

In his previous tweets, the BJP MP demanded disclosure of identity of “three MPs” with black money abroad.

“Who are the 3 MPs with illegal foreign assets? Not enough to tax them, govt must announce punitive action and nationalisation policy for illegal wealth abroad,” he had said in an earlier tweet.

“I want to know who are the people who have their names,” he said here Friday.

“I have also learnt there are certain sitting members of parliament whose accounts are there and probably one minister… I want to know who are these people,” he said.

The MO from Pilibhit, Uttar Pradesh, said the identities should be revealed and they should be shamed and punished.

“In India, you can get away with anything. My point is very simple, first of all these people should be shamed, they should be named and they should be punished,” he said.

Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee had earlier said that the names could not be revealed at this stage.
