Protesting nun sets herself on fire , dies in Tibet

Dharamsala : A Tibetan nun was killed in Tibet Monday after committing self-immolation at Ngaba in the north-east of the country .

Tenzin Wangmo , a 20-year-old nun from Dechen Chokorling nunnery in Ngaba, set herself on fire calling for religious freedom and return of the Dalai Lama .

The total number self-immolation deaths by Tibetans protesting against Chinese oppressive rule has now gone unto 9 since March this year . She is the first nun to die in the protests .

Two other protesters were shot and wounded by security forces in Karze a spokesman of the Tibetan government-in-exile told the Hill Post here Tuesday .

Gonga and Druklo, were shot and wounded by security forces during a peaceful protest outside a police station at Tseshul in Serthar, Karze in eastern Tibet.

During the protest, five other Tibetans were arrested. Those arrested were Rindhoe, 26, Choega,23, Bori, 19, Rigzoe,18 and Tsewang Kyi, 19.

The Chinese government has deployed heavy armed forces in Tseshul after many Tibetans from other areas gathered there to hold a peaceful protest.

The cabinet of the Tibetan government-in-exile will hold a day-long grand service at the main Buddhist temple in Dharamsala northern India on Wednesday in honour of all Tibetans who have self-immolated .

The Dalai Lama will join the prayer service . On the same day Tibetan refugees and Tibet supporters across the world will also offer day-long prayers as fast as a gesture of solidarity with Tibetans in Tibet .
