Three held for ragging in Himachal

Three students of a well known engineering college in Himachal Pradesh’s Hamirpur district were arrested by police for allegedly ragging eight students of the same college, police said.

The action was taken by the police after a senior official of the National Institute of Technology(NIT) complained to the police, SP Hamirpur Mandi Kuldeep Sharma said.

The three boys were nabbed by police outside the campus as they were apparently trying to flee after the incident.

Ragging has been made a serious offence after the death of Aman Kachru a student of the Rajendra Prasad medical college at Tanda in Kangra distrcit in 2007.

This issue of ragging is blown out of proportion and other than ragging students are facing many difficulties which no one is interested. Well nothing to complain as that is the way system works in this country and I do object to any sort of ragging let it be college , military academy or work place.
Students of same institute in Hamirpur has faced violence by local Cab drivers and that time authorities from within college and Outside availed them little help.
Few anti social elements confront students specially outsider and in such cases Police hardly show any interest. There are many cases of suicide by Students not only in the country but in Himachal as well but Colleges have no help and infrastructure for them.
