Eight feared dead in Kullu cloudburst

Shimla : At least eight people are feared killed and twenty others injured in a flash flood triggered by a cloudburst Thursday near Manali in Himachal Pradesh’s Kullu valley, police said.

“The accident took place in the night when eight workers were washed away at Dhundi the construction site of the Rohtang tunnel,” All India Radio was quoted as saying.

Police and rescue teams have rushed to the accident site some 15 km uphill from Manali.The injured have been to Manali.So far two bodies have been recovered.

The Beas river is in spate in valley due to heavy rains,Kullu DC BM Nanta has issued a red alert in the region.

The Rohtang tunnel will connect the scenic Kullu valley to the tribal Lahaul valley by an all weather road and reduce the distance considerably between Kullu and Keylong.
