Journalists urge Dhumal to impress centre about implementing wage board recommendations

Shimla: Chief minister Prem Kumar Dhumal assured a delegation of Confederation of Newspaper and News Agency Employees, consisting of prominent journalists, about taking up the issue of implementing the recommendations of Wage Board at the earliest.

Dhumal assured the journalists of the state that he would be taking up the issue with the concerned authorities in the union government and would make efforts to get the recommendations implemented so that justice was done with the journalists and non-journalist employees working with the newspapers and news agencies.

The chief minister let the delegation know that he had raised the working journalists’ causes in parliament also when he was a Member of the Parliament from the State.

Earlier Kanwar Yogendra on behalf of the journalists body presented the memo and sought the chief ministers intervention for impressing upon the central government about notification of the Wage Board Recommendations for Journalists and Non-Journalist Employees of newspapers and news agency organizations.

Kanwar Yogendra apprised the chief minister that recommendations of the Wage Board were not being implemented by majority of newspapers and news agencies.

He said that revenue was pouring in from advertisements and other sources but the employees were not given their due.

He urged the chief minister for his intervention to raise the issue at appropriate platform and help in protecting the interests of journalists.
