Shimla: With snows melting in the high passes, the state election commission announced the program to panchayat election in the three high altitude tribal sub-divisions of the state that lie close to the India-Tibet international border.
The two phase election for the three tiered Panchayati Raj Institutions for Udaipur and Keylone sub-division of Lahaul Spiti district and Pangi siub-division of Chamba district are to held on 10 and 12 June, a spokesman of the commission stated.
Nominations open up 24th May and close on 26th May, scrutiny takes place on 27th May and withdrawal would be allowed till 30th May.
Counting of votes for ward member, vice-president and panchayat president would take place on the polling day itself after it gets over at 3 p.m, whereas vote count for panchayat samiti and zila parishad member would take place on 14th June.
With announcement of election, model code of conduct comes into effect in these sub-divisions and the process would be completed on 17th June.
Elections to 3195, of the 3243 panchayats in the state, 75 of the 77 block samitis and 11 of the 12 zila parishads were earlier completed in December, 2010.
