Shimla:Senior Himachal Pradesh Administrative Service Officer, Ginu Ram Bharati (55) committed suicide on Thursday after consuming some poisonous celphos powder at his official residence in Chota Shimla, district police superintendent Sonal Agnihotri said.
Bharati, a resident of Kashli village in Nirmand tehsil in Kullu district, was alone in his residence and a suicide note has been recovered from the spot. The district police chief said that it was on a report by neighbours that police broke into the house of the officer to find him dead inside.
No foul play was suspected as the suicide note blamed a woman with whom he was having an affair to be the cause for taking the extreme step, police sources said. The officer was also undergoing treatment from PGI Chandigarh, and is said to have been suffering from a depression.
The deceased was serving as joint secretary in Sainik Welfare Board. He is survived by wife Janki Devi and four daughters, two of whom are married.
