Shimla: For showcasing rural handicrafts and other products, Himachal government plans to open start a network of Grameen Haats that would be opened in all districts, chief minister Prem Kumar Dhumal stated today.
Grameen Haats would be opened in a phased manner, wherein rural people would get to sell there product at a one stop platform to consumers, wholesalers and retailers, Dhumal told a gathering at Bhatakufar, on the outskirts of Shimla.
In all 36 Grameen Haat would be constructed, with an outlay of Rs 5.40 crore, he said. Twelve of these outlets would be at district headquarters and one would be a state level outlet.
These Haats would not only revive the traditional income generating avocations at the village level but also engage rural youth in self-employment avenues at their homes itself, he said.
