Cong Prez Kaul Singh seeks CBI probe in HP School Board & HPU fake certificates
Shimla: Terming it a communal clash and not a ragging incident at Baru Sahib private university, the congress today asked the government to withdraw recognition of deemed university status granted to the institute so as to send out a stern message to other private educational institutions.
Congress state president Kaul Singh Thakur said, “it was not ragging but a murderous attack, after the mid-night hour, at the engineering college of the Enternal University of Baru Sahib in Poanta on October 14.â€
Speaking to media persons, the congress president claimed to have met students of the engineering college who were living in fear and were refusing to rejoin the university after what they have been through.
People brandishing swords attacked the hostel residents and they had to flee for their lives into the jungles, he said.
Those who had lodged a police complaint, were being pressurized to withdraw it and after the university authorities failed to do so, a ragging case was being made out against them, he alleged.
The government has been a mute spectator to the utter collapse of law and order in the area and the congress demands that the deemed university status of the institute be withdrawn, said Thakur.
Taking umbrage to issuing of an ordinance for starting two private universities, the congress president said that the government was heeding the warning signs and was in utter haste granting permission to private institutions even though there was a bill pending before the select committee about constituting a regulatory body for the education sector.
Privatization and commercialization was most vehemently being opposed by Akhil Bhartiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), a student’s organization affiliated to BJP ideology as also by SFI and NSUI, but the government is unmoved, he added.
Lashing out at the government over the laxity in the education sector Kaul Singh said that despite chief minister Prem Kumar Dhumal statements about taking stern action against those found involved in the certificate scam in HP School Education Board, a cover was being attempted to protect those responsible for it.
The congress president demanded a CBI probe into the fake certificate scam in the functioning of HP Education Board and Himachal Pradesh University.
“A case needs to be registered against the former chairman of the school board holding him responsible for the major haul in which over 250 students have been awarded pass certificates without them having appeared for any board examination, he said.
