Himachal Tribals happy with GOI National Awards Scheme

The Government of India is going ahead with a scheme to award the institutions, organizations and individual for exemplary work in the field of Tribal development. One such award is a National Award for the Best Janjatiya Achiever, under which two awards preferably one male ST achiever and the other a female ST achiever, covering any of the fields of Sports (outstanding performance at National/International level), Education (outstanding performance in engineering, medical or any discipline at Graduate and Post Graduate level), Culture and long time contribution in the performing arts such as dance/drama/visual arts etc. and Science, Technology, Entrepreneurship and Biodiversity conservation and any other field (outstanding contribution), this was disclosed by Commissioner, Tribal Development Department, Himachal Pradesh.

Each award carries an amount of Rs. two lakh a citation and a trophy.

He added that another National Award for Exemplary Community Service rendered to the ST will be given for exemplary work done among the tribal people in any field that has resulted in their rapid or remarkable development to Individuals, Panchayati Raj Institutions, Non-Government Organisation, Voluntary organizations and Community Based Groups/Organisations.

The award in the category will carry a cash prize of Rs. 5 lakh, a citation and a trophy.

The application for National Award for Best Janjatiya Achiever and National Award for Exemplary Community Service rendered to ST should reach in the office of Project Officer, Integrated Tribal Development Project of Kinnaur, Spiti, Lahaul, Bharmour and Pangi latest by 15th July, 2010.

The ITDP will further scrutinize and forward it to the Commissioner (Tribal Development) by 15th August, 2010. After appropriate scrutiny the application shall be sent to the Ministry of Tribal Affairs, Government of India.
