Shimla: Having successfully conducted the students outfit election, National Students Union of India (NSUI) president elect, Yadupati termed it as a party’s emphasis on democratic process that has allowed a student from a common family to head the organization.
Talking to the media he claimed that it was the first students’ body in the state to have conducted a transparent, free and fair election.
“All the elected persons working as a team would try and expand the NSUI base both in the university and colleges,†said Yadupati.
He added that adopting a democratic process to elect the president had enabled him, son of an ordinary farmer, to be able to serve the students community in such a manner.
To initiate newly elected members into working as a group, the national body of NSUI would train us, he said.
Late on Sunday, NSUI announced completion of its election where Yadupati from Mandi who polled 278 votes defeated Balwinder Singh by 56 votes.
The newly elected president replaces Vivek Kumar, who was personally picked out by Rahul Gandhi after undertaking a talent hunt search. Kumar served as a nominated president for two years.
The election also threw up two delegates Vijendra Pal Sharma from Kullu and Nitika from Chamba to represent state at the national level.
