Shimla: The central government has given its nod for the Rs 1000 crore Shimla drinking water scheme by approving it for World Bank funding.
Urban development minister Mohinder Singh Thakur, disclosed today that the union finance ministry had given approval for funding “Gravity Drinking Water Supply Scheme from Pabber River” from the World Bank.
A sum of about Rs. one thousand crore would be spent under this scheme and would meet the water requirement of Shimla town upto 2037, he said.
Counting it as a big achievement for the state government, he said the important scheme gets 90 percent subsidy and the loan component is only 10 percent.
This scheme would save huge amount every year as water would be brought through gravity from Pabber River to Shimla town. It is one of its kind scheme for the state, he said.
A draft of the scheme had been sent to World Bank and soon the team of World Bank would visit the area to give its final approval, said Thakur.
