Shimla: District and Session Judge, Solan – CB Barowalia, late on Monday evening, granted bail to arrested senior police officer BS Thind in the criminal intimidation and extortion case registered with Parwanoo police.

Earlier, Thind after being discharged from IGMC hospital Shimla was brought to Solan under transit remand and produced before the judge at about 6.30 p.m.

Treating doctors in the afternoon had declared the suspended police officer fit to be produced before the courts.

Thind was arrested on Saturday afternoon by the Parwanoo police near the district courts, where he had come to attend a hearing in a case about misappropriation of public funds when he headed a public sector undertaking in the mid 1980’s.

After being arrested, Thind had complained of chest pain and was taken to hospital where several tests were run on him and he was kept under observation.

The case made out against the suspended senior police officer is based on a complaint by Chandigarh based businessman Ashok Mittal, who has alleged that illegal money was demanded from him for getting a rented commercial property he owned at Parwanoo vacated.
As evidence, Mittal had submitted a telephone conversation recording on a CD. Based on the evidence collected a case was registered on June 15, 2008.Â
