Himachal to consider pre-marriage HIV tests compulsory

Shimla: In an effort to abolish yet incurable disease like HIV/AIDS, Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister, Prof. Prem Kumar Dhumal, considered pre-marriage HIV test for the couple.

He said that State Government would consider making HIV-AIDS tests compulsory before marriage to build a healthy society.

He said this on the launching ceremony of month long State Level AIDS Awareness Campaign for month of December, 2008 by Ashadeep, an NGO in association with State Health and Family Welfare Department.

He also said that awareness and education among the people about HIV/AIDS is necessary to get positive attitude and public support for the HIV tests before marriage.
