Shimla: On 7th February 2008, the Planning Commission approved Renuka Dam in Himachal Pradesh alongwith Lakhwar Vyasi Project (now in Uttarakhand) and the Kishau Project (now in Uttarakhand) with an estimated cost of Rs. 1224.64 crore, Rs. 140.97 crores and Rs.3455 crores, respectably, stated the Minister of State for Water Resources, Jai Prakash Narayan Yadav, when questioned by Satya Vrat Chaturvedi and Motilal Vora in the Rajya Sabha today.
He said that in the Renuka project there is a compliance in respect of sharing of cost, Environment & Forests clearance has not yet been received.
Taking these three projects as projects of national importance he said that 90% of the cost of irrigation and drinking water component of the projects will be provided by Central Government as grant thereby providing an incentive to the concerned State Governments for early start of construction of these projects.
Ministry of Environment & Forests has been requested by the Secretary (WR) for early clearance of Renuka project, which is in advanced stage for clearance, from Environment & Forests angle so that the proposal could be put up for the consideration by the Technical Advisory Committee.
