Shimla: With the lone BSP legislator Sanjay Chaudhary joining ruling party BJP at Dharamshala, presence of Bhaujan Samaj Party in Himachal assembly ended on Wednesday.

Jai Ram Thakur, state president BJP confirmed to My Himachal about Chaudhary joining the ruling party.

“Sanjay Chaudhary has joined BJP and his entry into the ruling party has been approved by Vidhan Sabha speaker Tulsi Ram in the house,” said Jai Ram Thakur.

With the entry of the new legislator, strength of BJP has increased to 42 in a house of 68 members.

BSP which was beginning to carve out political space in a polarized arena first lost it President Balwant Singh who resigned just before the assembly election concluded in December 2007.

However the party managed to secure 7.5 percent votes and made a debut by winning the Kangra reserved seat, where Chaudhary won.

BSP state convener Major Vijay Singh Mankotia left the party about two months ago saying that he was retiring from politics.

With the lone MLA deserting the party, the presence of the party in the state has eroded.
