Shimla: Police in Sanjauli locality arrested two persons under Narcotic Drugs and Psychotic Substances (NDPS) Act for selling and buying cough syrup in violation of any prescription documents.
Police station officer Shiv Kumar said that after noticing a young Balwant Singh moving about carrying suspicious things in his pockets, a search was conducted and he was found carrying three bottles of Rex Cough, a known cough syrup that has intoxicating properties.
Singh had no prescription slip to justify the medicines purchased. Vijaha Enterprises, a chemist shop in the vicinity from where the cough syrup was raided and 31 bottles of the medicines was recovered hidden under the sale counter, said the police official.
Dhani Ram, the salesman at the shop and Balwant have stand arrested under NDPS Act and the shop has sealed, said Kumar.
The locality is notorious for sale of intoxicating medicines which have resulted in the death of more than one young man over the years. Two months ago, the police arrested a person with brown sugar in his possession in the locality.
