Tourism has been upbeat with upend as well as other hotels reporting good occupancy rates. A five star Oberoi hotel claimed to have had more that 65 percent occupancy over the past month.

The festive purchasing mood was also reflected in the car sales being reported. Sandeep Thakur, a sales manager in one car show room disclosed that over the past week alone about 250 new cars had been sold out. For the month the figure was more that 500 cars sold.

Hectic purchasing was witnessed in the central mall marketing plaza, and the lower bazaar was a crowded place to even walk about.

Like the Christmas – New Year festive week, the pooja festivals and Diwali are one occasion, when people are eager to catch up with relatives, revive contacts or settle old grouses, said Sandeep Mehra, an old timer.
