Himachal government seeks national acclaim for Mountaineering and Allied Sports Institution, Manali

Ravinder Singh Ravi, the Irrigation and Public Health Minister announced that the state government has asked the Centre to accord the status of National Sports Institution to Mountaineering and Allied Sports Institution, Manali.

Marking out the features of the institute, he said that the complex of the Mountaineering and Allied Sports Institution was bigger than the IMF Delhi, HMI Darjeeling and JIM, Pahalgam, which were the oldest institutions of the country. He also requested for financial assistance while demanding 3 crores for construction of sports climbing wall. Relaxing the conditions of Panchayat Youth Sports Campaign, he asked the Centre to recognize the Panchayat as a unit under the scheme. He disclosed that a 9 year long work project was prepared by the state for the scheme and a sum of 44,69,41,700 would be spent on the same. He demanded special financial assistance for providing facilities of Astroturf in 3 hockey grounds, teraflakes in 4 indoor halls, 3 athletics synthetic tracks, and developing 5 artificial ski grass slopes.
