State gets World Bank approval for its Bio Carbon Credit Project

The Forest Minister, J.P. Nadda addressing a review meeting announced that the World Bank has approved the Bio Carbon Credit Project. He said that the project would be first of its kind in the country. Directing the officers to prepare the Project Design Document (PDD) and the Tripartite Agreement within three weeks, he said that the project should be signed with the World Bank by July, 2008 positively.

He further praised the benefit-sharing model of environmental conservation being followed by Costa Rica, asking the departments to study it thoroughly for replication in CAT and other plans, wherever possible. Another announcement that took place in the meeting was regarding the government sanction of a monthly allowance of Rs. 100 for mobile phones bills of Forest Guards and Range Officers during summer season in order to secure a better and fast communication.
