Shimla: The BJP’s nation wide bandh call over UPA government failure to reign in rising prices received a lukewarm response in Himachal where the party was returned to power four months ago after a five year term in the opposition.
All government offices functioned normally, so did banks, educational institution and other emergency services. There were no reports of traffic disruption but the business communities and beopar mandals shut shop for some hours in support of the strike.
The strike which the ruling party called a ‘hathal’ was effective in most markets across the state till about 2 p.m. after which businesses was normal.
Party workers took out a procession, shouting slogans and carrying banners against rising prices and the effects it was having on family incomes.
