Traffic blockade at Alampur

PALAMPUR: The Vehicular traffic on Palampur- Hamirpur state highway remained suspended for three hours today as hundred of villagers staged a dharna on the highway at Alampur,  thirty kilometers from here in protest against the alleged highhandedness of Lamabagaon police and illegal detention of Roshan Lal   resident of Alampur.

It is learnt that Mr. Paras Ram and his son Bhavan Kumar  had beaten up Roshan Lal on Monday when he was on his way to Jaisinghpur.  Roshan Lal who received serious injuries lodged a complaint in the Lambagaon police station against the culprits.  Instead of arresting the culprits, police registered a case against Roshan Lal and his son and lodged them in the  police lock up. Later few villagers along with ladies went to police station and asked the SHO to  initiate action against the culprits and release Roshan Lal.  It is alleged that policemen on duty abused the ladies and threatened them with dire consequences. They were forced to leave the police station.

Later hundreds of villagers came out on the state highway blocked the vehicular traffic and demanded action against the SHO Lamba Gaon.  They also shouted slogans against the police. By evening the DSP Palampur Dinesh Sharma reached on the spot and persuaded the villagers to lift the traffic jam.  He assured the villagers that stern action would be initiated against the erring policemen.  Later villagers agreed to restore the vehicular traffic and lifted the dharna.

Matter was also reported to SSP Kangra  Mr. A. Puljule, who had ordered probe into the incident.
