Shimla: Coming down hard on the Virbhadra Singh government as ‘the most corrupt government in Himachal history’ former chief minister Prem Kumar Dhumal alleged that over the last five years the state had failed to garner enough investments even though a golden opportunity had been created by the Atal Bihari Vajpayee led NDA government in 2003.
After being designated as the chief ministerial candidate by BJP, Dhumal at a conference call here today said, “the congress government not only failed to protect the 10 year duration of the industrial package of tax incentives allowed for the state but could not even create proper industrial estates and turned a blind eye towards the land mafia who have grown into multi-millionaires.â€
Satpal Jain who was present at the media briefing announced that the party would release its manifesto on 6th December.
He said that the state had attracted the least investments and no significant employment had been generated.
Responding to a threat by chief minister Virbhadra Singh making a disclosures about the contents of a computer hard disk that was recovered from then chief minister Dhumal office, he said, “the fact is that the computer forensic division of the central forensic laboratory at Hyderabad examined the disk and found nothing in it.’
Dhumal circulated a photostat copy of the report to the media which stated
“No active / deleted file / document pertaining to recommendations for appointments by HP Subordinate Services Selection Board Hamirpur, HP has been found in the suspected storage media stamped and marked Q4.â€
The BJP leader questioned, “There is a controversial CD of the chief minister doing the rounds for the last seven months, why has the government refrained from getting a proper inquiry instituted into it. Neither has the chief minister gone under oath and submitted an affidavit in a court of law, disowning the voice heard in the CD to be his and that of his wife Pratibha Singh discussing illegal money transactions with a former official,” he said.
Dhumal said that on the onset of wheat sowing season, farmers were cheated by being supplied inferior quality fertilizers. He charged that the fertilizer was bought by HIMFED, a government cooperative, from an industrialist in Rajasthan who has close connections with the congress government.
Fruit growers were also cheated by being supplied dubious pesticides and pruning scissors, he said.
The congress government tall claims of providing one job to one family proved false and the youth of the state had been cheated, added. The common man had been hit hard by rising prices, expensive medicines and the rampant corruption prevailing in the government functioning,†he said.
On coming to power the BJP government will not be vindictive. The innocent will not be touched but culprits will not be spared, he said. The fertilizer and horticulture scam would be inquired into, the Himalayan Ski Village project would be re-examined, he said.
Dhumal claimed that BJP would win the election with a record margin. “Even the demand of election tickets was indicative of what the outcome would be. Where as there was tremendous demand for BJP tickets, the congress leaders were pleading for being exempted from contesting the elections, he said.
Thanking the BJP central leadership for reposing faith in his leadership, Dhumal said that it was ironic that the Congress high command had refrained from naming Virbhadra Singh as the chief ministerial candidate for this election, even though he had run a term through. ”
Coming events are casting their shadows,” he concluded.
