Shimla: BJP has lauded the Election Commission for serving a notice on chief minister Virbhadra Singh for violating the election code of conduct saying that it would go a long way in ensuring a fair election.Where as former senior BJP leader Prem Kumar Dhumal has sought imposition of Presidents Rule for conduct of a free and fair poll, state BJP president Jai Ram Thakur said that intimidating poll officials was a serious violation of the election process which the commission has taken notice off.
Thakur and Dhumal were referring to the alleged threat that chief minister Virbhadra Singh held out to district poll officials in Kinnaur for not allowing beacon lights atop vehicles that were moving in a convoy along with the chief minister’s vehicle during electioneering in the assembly segment.
The election commission has sought a reply from chief minister Virbhadra Singh by November 15th for allegedly having threatened the election officials in doing their job in Kinnaur.
“By repeatedly pointing fingers at the Election Commission about its functioning, the chief minister has brought disrepute to the very post he holds,†said Jai Ram Thakur.
Congress Terms Demand For Presidents Rule As Unwarranted
Shaken by the notice served on the chief minister Virbhadra Singh by the election commission for alleged violation of election code of conduct, the congress today termed the BJP demand for imposition of President’s Rule in the state as unwarranted.
Congress spokesman Kuldeep Rathore reacting to a statement of senior BJP leader Prem Kumar Dhumal said that the opposition should come forward with some solid facts before even contemplating putting forward such a demand.
He said that the election was being conducted under the watchful eye of the election commission and there were no circumstances prevailing in the state that needed imposition of Presidents rule.
“On the contrary if anywhere president’s rule needs to be imposed, then it’s in the state of Gujrat, where a sting operation has thoroughly exposed the functioning of the Narender Modi government during the aftermath of the riots,†said Rathore.
He asked that the election commission take notice of election code violations being done by BJP members and demanded strict action against them.
