Government plays farce with the people.
The Himachal Pradesh government today declared 28th October, 2007 as public holiday in the areas of those Panchayati Raj Institutions where the bye-elections are scheduled to be held to fill up the vacant seats in Panchayati Raj Institutions.
Govt. spokes person said that all the Government offices, Boards, Corporations, Educational Institutions and Industrial Establishment under Industrial Dispute Act and shops will remain closed on the said date in the area of this Ward to exercise their right of franchise. This will also be a paid holiday to the daily waged employees and also within the meaning of Section 25 of the Negotiable Instruments Act, 1881, he added.
He further said that all the Deputy Commissioners were authorized to declare a public holiday on the date of poll in the concerned areas within their jurisdiction. The public holiday declared by the Deputy Commissioners would be applicable only in the areas where the bye-election was taking place, he added.
Incidentally and surprisingly, the day when the elections will be held is Sunday and there is no need for making such announcement as Sunday is always a holiday all over India.
