Better sense prevails, government revokes the oppositions suspension

Having thrown out the opposition from the house yesterday, the government today beat a retreat and revoked the suspension of 17 BJP legislators and a supporting independent after passing a resolution to the effect immediately after the question hour in the Vidhan Sabha today.

Though chief minister Virbhadra Singh tried to get the revocation resolution adopted before the question hour, however the speaker ruled that it could only be taken up after that. The opposition MLAs termed it as a victory for democracy and participated in the days proceedings after the lunch hour.

Earlier the suspended members held a silent protest by tying a black cloth on their faces before the gates of the Vidhan Sabha and only burst to life, shouting victory slogans after a written order from the Speaker’s office was delivered to the leader of the group Ishwar Dass Dhiman, stating the revocation.
