GOVERNOR STRESSES TO CREATE AWARENESS TO PREVENT GLOBAL CLIMATE CHANGE

333.jpgV.S. Kokje, the Governor of Himachal Pradesh exhorted that while climate change is a global environment issue, we have to create awareness to prevent global climate change and convert it into people’s movement.

Presiding over the valedictory session of three day long the first ever convention on Corporate Response to climate change on the theme of “Combating Climate Change through Market Driven Solutions” organized by World Environment Foundation, World Council for Corporate Governance (UK) and Institute of Directors at Palampur today, the Governor said that rising global temperatures will mean more flooding, more droughts and inundation of costal areas, resulting in shortages of food and water across the globe.

The Governor appreciated the efforts of World Environment Foundation for instituting the Golden Peacock Awards for Environment Management and also hoped that the efforts of World Environment Foundation to put a spotlight on Himachal Pradesh as a destination of eco investment and environmentally sustainable development by evolving sustainable energy solution. He also hoped that the deliberations of the convention would be very relevant to combat this global problem.

The Governor gave away the Golden Peacock Environment Management Awards to various national repute Indian companies of different field for Environment Management and Eco Innovation in order to create a sense of competitiveness in improving environment management.
Dr. Madhav Mehra, President World Council for Corporate Governance and World Environment Foundation delivered the closing remarks.
