Virbhadra Singh, Chief Minister announced taking over of Kanwar Durga Chand Memorial Degree College, Jaisinghpur under Government operation by relaxing the taking over norms to facilitate students get higher education nearer their homes. He said that the college would be named after Kanwar Durga Chand and added that State Government would take over the college with immediate effect and it would be the second private degree college in the assembly segment.
He was addressing a public meeting at Tambar in Jaisinghpur Sub-Division of district Kangra today. He dedicated Juman Malehar Augmented Water Supply Scheme constructed at a cost of Rs. 47.97 lakh and newly upgraded Senior Secondary School, Tambar to the people of the area and also announced additional rooms for Government Senior Secondary School, Tambar.
Chief Minister said that the endeavour of his Government had been to create best educational infrastructure and strengthen the education system in the State and added that these efforts have also been appreciated by Noble laureate Prof. Amartya Sen. He said that the State had only 331 educational institutions at the time of formation of State in 1948 which have now increased to 16000. He said that majority of colleges were opened in rural areas during his Chief Ministership and added that besides opening new degree colleges, a number of private colleges were taken over and brought under the Government control.
Virbhadra Singh announced upgradation of Government High Schools, Kona, Nahliyan to Government Senior Secondary Schools, Government Primary Schools, Uttarpur and Bhalundar to Government Middle Schools and opening of one veterinary dispensary at Tambar.
