New Delhi, May 14 (IANS) Congress president Sonia Gandhi Tuesday said she was shocked over the society’s failure to check violence against women and girls.
“We all have been shocked by the violence women and girls encounter in the streets and in their homes,” Sonia Gandhi said after laying the foundation stone of a girls’ hostel at Jamia Milia Islamia here.
“It pains me that as a society we have failed to counter it (the violence),” she said.
Several gruesome incidents of violence against women and girls have been reported from across the country in the past few months.
