5 Primary Health Centre in Kinnaur without doctors

Five primary health centers (PHC) in the high altitude tribal district of Kinnaur are without doctors, even as the government has acquire land for opening up a fifty bedded hospital in the industrial town of Baddi.

Health minister Sujan Singh Pathania, who a month ago was inducted into the cabinet, in response to congress legislator Jagat Singh’s question stated that the vacant posts in the Kinnaur assembly segment would only be filled upon availability of trained staff. Besides the non availability of doctors for the PHCs, Pathania amidst shouting opposition members informed the house that there were there were five institutions in Kinnaur, which were without radiographic technicians.

Replying to a question from Lajja Ram, a congress MLA from Doon, the health minister stated that the government was in the process of fencing of a 1000 square meter plot for setting up fifty bedded hospital at Baddi. After the fencing is completed, the site would be handed over to ESI Corporation, which would then start construction of the hospital in the industrial town, he said.

Related to shortage of health staff in the tribal district of Lahaul and Spiti, the health minister informed congress member Raghubir Singh that their were 35 vacancies of medical staff in the district, which included 7 doctors, spread over 15 institutions.
