[lang_en]Shimla: To piece evidence on a case of unaccounted wealth made out by state vigilance bureau against bureaucrat Subhash Ahluwalia, the bureau on Saturday moved the courts for permission to conduct a narco test of Mira Ahluwalia, wife of the suspended bureaucrat along with her husband.
Investigators maintained that since a proper interrogation of the couple had not been conducted it was necessary to conduct a narco-test, which could give leads to other undisclosed properties.
However, special judge SL Gupta gave Subhash Ahluwalia time till December 20 for responding to the investigators application.[/lang_en][lang_en]
A vigilance official told My Himachal News, “the police custody had not proved much helpful as the accused reported ill and was hospitalized for much of the remand period.â€
A narco-test which is conducted under doctor’s supervision was the best way for the investigation to move ahead. It was important that the test be conducted on both husband and wife so as to corroborate the statements made by the duo before the investigators, he added.
Subhash, a 1989 batch IAS officer and Mira a college principal have been charged with possessing assets disproportionate to their known sources of income.
Following registration of a case, a house search was conducted and documents and computers were seized. On October 8, Subhash Ahluwalia was arrested and remanded to police custody and was let out on bail allowed by the High Court.[/lang_en]
