New Delhi, May 24 (IANS) President Pranab Mukherjee, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Vice President Hamid Ansari Friday greeted the countrymen on the eve of Buddha Purnima.
The president said Lord Buddha taught the path of right action so that mankind may overcome its suffering.
“Lord Buddha’s teachings of non-violence, love and compassion are of eternal significance. We must strive to make these teachings part of our daily life and tread the path of nobility in thought, word and deed,” the president said.
“May this joyous festival of Buddha Purnima usher in peace and universal brotherhood across the world,” he added.
In his message, the prime minister said that teachings of Lord Buddha give inspiration to follow the path of universal brotherhood, compassion and the service of the underprivileged and disadvantaged people.
“May this festival spread the values of peace and brotherhood amongst us all,” he said.
The vice president said Lord Buddha’s teachings of compassion, selfless service, right conduct and non-violence were still relevant.
“I convey my greetings and best wishes to all our citizens on the auspicious occasion of Buddha Purnima, which marks the birthday of Gautam Buddha.”
“On this important occasion, let us imbibe Buddha’s message and dedicate ourselves towards building a peaceful, compassionate and harmonious society,” he said.
