Kerala BJP not allying with Hindu groups: BJP

Thiruvananthapuram, May 20 (IANS) The BJP Monday said Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to the Sivagiri Mutt here last month should not be seen as a move to forge an alliance with Hindu groups in the state.

BJP spokesperson Nirmala Seetharaman said here: “Modi visited the Sivagiri Mutt last month because he was invited. His visit should not be seen in any political context.”

Seetharaman was on a visit to the BJP headquarters here at a time when the Kerala BJP is trying to form a new state committee.

The mutt is the headquarters of the Sree Narayana Dharma Paripalana (SNDP), a group of disciples and saints, established by Sree Narayana Guru who propagated the concept of “one caste, one religion, one god”.

Of late, both the NSS and the SNDP have been slamming the Congress-led Oommen Chandy government over being sidelined in favour of minority communities.

Modi’s visit came at a time when the leaders of the once-warring groups of Nair Service Society (NSS) and SNDP were trying to work for their joint upliftment on the political front.
