Srinagar: A Kashmiri student has became the first girl editor of a global children’s newspaper ‘The Peace Gong’ released in New Delhi, an official statement said today.
“Iflah Qureshi, a Kashmiri student, became the first girl editor of a global children’s newspaper ‘The Peace Gong’,” said a press statement issued by the government, adding the paper was released by Zalmai Wafamal, the first secretary (political and press) in the Afghan embassy during Global Youth Service Day celebrations 2013 in New Delhi on May 10.
The latest issue of the Peace Gong written for and by children in India and beyond has been dedicated to the post-2015 development agenda. Five young students from the state contributed their inspiring write ups to the issue.
On the occasion, Iflah, a class 12 student, wrote: “Our newspaper, The Peace Gong, promotes diversity and helps in facilitating dialogue amongst young people from different cultures and communities. This can be a powerful vehicle to help young people to come together and work for global peace.”
