Taxmen probe Subhash Ahluwalia’s income

[lang_en]Shimla: With the Income tax authorities taking cognizance of the disproportionate asset case made out by the state government against senior bureaucrat Subhash Ahluwalia, the taxman have re-opened the tax return files of the officer to ascertain any mismatch noticed in what has been declared.

Chief commissioner income tax for Himachal, SC Gupta said, “following the case registered by the state government, we are looking into the income return papers declared by the bureaucrat.”

Ahluwalia, who was given a reprieve by the High Court by granting him bail in the disproportionate asset case two days ago, would now also need to satisfy the taxmen about assets which police investigators claim he and his family members possess.

Sources in the tax department revealed that the returns of 2007-08 are being reopened for scrutiny to ascertain facts about transactions reported to have taken place in various bank accounts.[/lang_en]
