New Delhi, April 25 (IANS) Suspended Delhi Police ACP B.S. Ahlawat was booked for causing “hurt” by slapping an anti-rape woman protestor here, an officer said Thursday.
“The case was registered after the victim lodged a complaint Tuesday against the ACP (Assistant Commissioner of Police). The probe has begun,” the officer said.
A case under section 323 of the Indian Penal Code (voluntarily causing hurt) has been registered against Ahlawat, the officer added.
Ahlawat was suspended after TV channels beamed visuals showing him slapping a woman protestor April 19 at Swami Dayanand Hospital in east Delhi, where the five-year-old girl who was gang-raped, was being treated.
The minor was gang-raped by two men in east Delhi’s Gandhi Nagar area. The men were arrested and are now in police custody.
On April 22, the Police Commissioner Neeraj Kumar had said that action against the ACP would be taken if the woman lodged a complaint.
The victim is presently undergoing treatment at All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS).
