Shimla: Work on the stalled construction of Theog-Kotkhai-Jubbal-Hatkoti-Rohru highway would begin within six months, senior government officials let the High Court know in response to a public interest litigation from the people suffering on account bad road conditions in the area.
Hearing the petition, the double bench of Acting Chief Justice RB Mishra and Justice Rajiv Sharma directed the state authorities to mitigate the hardships being faced by the general public, “particularly, horticulturists who have to take their produce from their orchards to market.”
Principal Secretary PWD Narinder Chauhan and Naresh Sharma, Chief Engineer-cum-Project Director, who were present in the court stated that the matter had been taken up with World Bank, the funding agency of the project.
The government officials let the court know that a World Bank team had visited the state between 26.01.13 and 22.02.13. “Once a green signal was obtained from the World Bank, tendering process could start by May – June and entire process would be completed within two months. The officials submitted before the court that construction of Theog to Rohroo road would commence within a period of six months.
Before listing the case for 27 June, the court directed that till the tendering process was not completed, the state would be responsible for proper of the maintenance road, particularly during the monsoon period.
