Shimla: With the silt levels having receded in the fast flowing Satluj River, generation at the nations largest hydro plant resumed in the afternoon today, ending stress conditions in many of the northern states of Punjab, Haryana and Delhi .
A Satluj Jal Vidyut Nigam (SJVNL) spokesman disclosed that four of the six turbines of 250 MW each had been made operational about 3 p.m after the silt levels in the Nathpa reservoir dropped to 4500 parts per million (ppm).
The other two turbines would be made operational after the silt levels dropped to below 4000 ppm, said the spokesperson.
Power supply from the 1500 MW plant has resumed into the northern grid and is meeting the demands of Punjab , Haryana, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Chandigarh , and Delhi .
The plant was shut down on June 11, as rising silt in the river had forced the SJVNL management to stop generation. The plant turbines are designed to withstand silt corrosion upto 4000 ppm.
With an average generation revenue loss of about Rs 9 crore in one day, SJVNL has taken a revenue hit of over Rs 72 crore in the last eight days during peak generation time. For sustained growth and consistency in performance the state-centre joint venture government company was only recently elevated to a Mini-Ratna Status I category.
