SJVN first quarter generation drops by 21 percent

Shimla: Reduced discharge in River Satluj flows has impacted generation at SJVN’s 1500 MW Nathpa Jhakri hydropower station that has reported a 21 percent drop in generation over its corresponding quarter from last year.

The generation achieved during the first quarter ending June was 2091 million units (MU), whereas the company has laid out a target of generating 7000 MU of electricity during the financial year 2012-13.

Lesser snow melt in the higher reaches of the rivers catchment resulted in decrease in average discharge by as much as 36 percent but a better plant availability factor (PAF) utilized during the quarter reduced the impact on generation which was reduced by only 21 percent, RP Singh CMD of SJVN after reporting the quarter results at Delhi on Monday.

A better PAF compared to last years also earned the company higher unscheduled interchange (UI) charges. Whereas last fiscal the company earned Rs 18.51 crore as UI charges, in the first quarter this year SJVN has already earned Rs 14.61 Cr UI charges because usage of better plant availability factor. The overall profit after tax decreased by 9.46 percent over the corresponding quarter from last fiscal, he added.

During the fiscal 2011-12, SJVN registered a net profit of Rs 1068.68 crore against Rs 912.13 crore in the previous fiscal.

For the fiscal 2011-12 SJVN has proposed a total dividend of Rs 389.84 crore as against Rs 330.93 crore paid last year.
