Hamirpur: Three labourers engaged by a private contractor were killed at the spot and another injured due to falling of debris on them at an under-construction additional complex of Library at the National Institute of technology here this afternoon. The deceased have been named as Chhote Lal of Nepal, Jethu of Chhatisgarh and Deepak of Jharkhand, of India.
An official spokesman told reporters at the site that landslide from upper side led to this accident. He said that three persons who saw huge stones falling on them escaped from the place where the digging work was going on whereas others three could not make it outside the trench and were entrapped there. However, one them, managed to come outside leaving all others dead.
A JCV was put on duty to extricate bodies from under the debris and it took about one hour for them to complete the excavation operation.
Police and administration was informed late by the people present on site thus Hamirpur, ASP, Sumedha Divedi and SDM, R.K.Pruthi reached the accident site about half an hour after the incident. It was the Fire brigade people who informed the administration about the accident.
The lone injured Sunil Kumar who was admitted to local district hospital is out of danger.
Meanwhile, the police took all the three bodies to the district hospital for the post mortem operations. The bodies were handed over to their parents after the post mortem.
The Hamirpur district administration and the contractor gave a sum of ten thousand rupees each to the next of kins of the deceased.
Hamirpur Police have registered a case under section 304/34 of Indian Penal code and a further investigation into the case was on. However, no arrests have been made so far in this case.
Chief Minister, Prem Kumar Dhumal has expressed his shock grief over the incident and has directed the district administration to give adequate relief to the affected families and investigate the matter thoroughly.
