Shimla: Polling at all the polling booths for the two assembly seats where bye-elections were held concluded peacefully, recording a high turnout as over 80.66 percent voted in Nalagarh and 73.99 percent turned up at Renuka assembly segments.
Chief electoral officer Narinder Chauhan said that there was no untoward incident in any of the 172 polling station that had been set up for conduct of the poll.
He said that voting at Nalagarh was recorded at 80.66% and Renuka it was 73.99%.
Polling started at a dull note in early hours and picked up gradually.
In Nalagarh constituency the polling percentage in Dhana was 93 percent, in Rampur-II was 81 percent, in Saur 85 percent, in Bruna-I 88.56 percent and in Bruna-II 87.47 percent.
In Renuka assembly constituency 79 percent polling has been reported in Koti Dhiman, 73 percent in Rjhana and 78 percent in Kharotiyon.
In Nalagarh assembly constituency 53854 votes have been polled while in Renuka assembly constituency 38620 votes were polled.
They include Teja Singh 107 years old who cast his vote at polling station Jhida, Ruila Singh (106 years) at Panjehra, Bhagwan Dass (104 years) at Ghaeonwal polling station, Rikhi Ram (102 years) at Kanganwal and Ganga Ram (100 years) at Panwal.
Both the constituencies had 86 polling booths. In Nalagarh 32 booths were declared sensitive and 16 booths in Renuka were sensitive.
Six companies of para-military forces had been deployed by the election department for maintaining peace.
The keenly fought bye-elections is being watched as a precursor for the general assembly election due by October, 2012 where BJP and Congress would be contesting for power again.
In Nalagrah there were a total of 67,780 voters and in Renuka there are eligible 52,473 voters. The contest on the two seats is between ruling BJP and opposition Congress.
