Harrisburg, PA: On Saturday, friends of a Harrisburg murder victim remembered the young life lost. They also called for the arrest of his killer.
Hitender Thakur was shot dead in May 2006. He was robbed while working as a convenience store clerk in Harrisburg. Thakur was just 23-years-old and a student at HACC. On Saturday, friends gathered at Susquehanna Township’s Veterans Park. That is where Thakur played his favorite sport, Cricket. Attendees dedicated a special bench there to Thakur’s memory and also played Cricket in memory of Thakur. More than a year later, there are no arrests yet in the case.
Friend and event organizer Porus Irani had tears in eyes while saying, “It’s just getting frustrating, that’s all it is. Because it’s been over a year and we thought it would be quick. But it just seems like nothing’s going on because we don’t hear about it on the news or hear about it on the radio or anything and it’s just getting frustrating.” Friends are trying to raise money for a reward fund, hoping it will help catch the killer.

It is quite ironical that the killer has still not been caught when it is more than a year when Hitender succumbed to the deadly end in a gruesome manner.
It is high time the authorities are expected to take some serious work in nabbing the kiler and duly given a severe punishment.
Our heartfelt condolences to the noble soul from Himachal.
We pray to God for his soul may rest in peace.
We pray for His Almighty give all the needful strenth to the bereaved family in this hour of crisis and always.
Long live the memory of Hitender .

Far from the ongoing T20 extravaganza in South Africa, a different kind of cricket tourney was organised on Saturday in the not-so-cricket-crazy US. Indians, Pakistanis, Sri Lankans and Americans gathered to remember cricket lover Hitender Thakur, shot dead by black assailants on May 25 last year, and to urge the local police to trace his killers.
Hitender (23) hailed from Mandi and was studying at the Harrisburg Area Community College. He worked part-time as a store clerk at the City Gas & Diesel Mini Mart in Harrisburg and was on duty when he was shot and robbed of $ 100.
Thakur’s friends gathered at Susquehanna Township’s Veterans Park where Hitender used to often play. His teammates and players from nine clubs of the Pennsylvania United Cricket Association were also there. His friends led by college president Edna V. Baehre dedicated a special bench there to his memory.
“It’s frustrating. It’s been over a year (since Hitender was killed) and we thought it would be quick. But it just seems like nothing’s going on because we don’t hear about it on the news or on radio,†says close friend, Porus Irani.
Narender Atwal, another friend, will never forget May 25. “At 4.30 a.m. I got a call that Hitender had been shot at. Something died within me,†says Atwal, originally from Mumbai. He had taken Thakur’s body back to his native place. Even as Hitender’s friends try to raise money for a reward fund, hoping to help catch the killer, Avnish Katoch, a tourney organiser, sums it all up, “Thakur’s dreams were cut short and a promising career was brought to an abrupt end. It’s a shame that the men who murdered him are still free.â€
