Policy for leasehold to freehold land on anvil in Himachal

Shimla: The government has drawn up plans to draw a policy for converting leasehold land into free hold so as to provide land use rights for those who have leasehold properties in the state.

A cabinet sub-committee that was constituted for the purpose, today met under the chairmanship of revenue minister Thakur Gulab Singh and decided to study the prevalent rules about converting leasehold land into freehold in the neighbouring states of Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Uttrakhand and UT Chandigarh

“Officers have been to study the rules of neighbouring states and frame a draft policy that could be place before the state cabinet so that land users could be provided relief,” said Gulab Singh

Efforts would be made to identify commercial complexes and establishments coming up in rural areas on government land so that lease hold land could be changed into free hold. This would not only provide relief to the users but also add revenue to the state exchequer, he added.

Those who attended the meeting included Ravinder Singh Ravi, irrigation and public health minister, Kishan Kapoor, industries minister, Rajeev Bindal, health minister and Mahender Singh, transport minister.
