Tucked into the oak and deodar forests of Karjan village, this homestay is built for travelers who prefer silence over sightseeing.
Karjan village sits quietly on the left bank of the river, about 12 km from the bustle of Manali town. Surrounded by dense oak and deodar forests, with Himalayan peaks rising in every direction, it is the kind of place that asks nothing of you except that you slow down. Manali Meadows Homestay has made this unhurried corner its home — and it shows.
Unlike the more commercial stretches of Manali, Karjan has managed to hold onto its old-world character. There are no souvenir stalls or tour-operator billboards here — just apple orchards, winding forest trails, and the distant sound of a river. The fresh mountain air and wide-open views make it a natural fit for nature lovers, solo travelers, couples seeking a quiet escape, and families who want a laid-back holiday rather than an itinerary.

The Setting
The forests around Karjan remain cool and green throughout the year, offering a welcome contrast to the heat of the plains. Scenic walking trails thread through the trees, opening occasionally onto viewpoints with sweeping glimpses of the Himalayan ranges. Apple orchards add colour in season, and the surrounding landscape shifts beautifully with each month — lush and vivid in the monsoon, blanketed in snow through the winter.
Winter visitors, in particular, are in for a treat. Manali receives regular snowfall between December and February, transforming the valley into a quiet white landscape that is a world away from its summer crowds.
What to Do
The pace here is deliberately slow, but there is plenty to fill your days:
- Walk the forest trails through oak and deodar woods, breathing in the mountain air
- Photograph the Himalayan peaks and valley views from open meadows and ridge-top vantage points
- Try light trekking and gentle adventure activities that add a little excitement without disturbing the calm
- Spend evenings outdoors under a clear sky, watching stars in the absence of city light pollution
- Simply sit, read, and let the surroundings do the rest
Who It’s For
Manali Meadows Homestay works especially well for those who find crowded tourist spots draining rather than energising. “Karjan has always been this way,” said Varinder, an environmentalist and native of the village. “People come here and they immediately feel the difference. There’s no rush. The mountain does the rest.”
